Over the weekend I got an email from Zip Recruiter saying I should apply for a job at a local used car dealer that was looking for someone with video production skills. I figured I had nothing else going on since I’m being paid to sit at home by a job I hate, and that’s tenuous at best, so I applied.
I got a call from the dealership yesterday morning asking if I wanted to come out for an interview, and I said sure.
Well, the dealership deals in salvage/branded-titles. I don’t know how that all works, but I know there’s a shitload of used car dealerships in Utah that sell cars with salvage titles, those cars have to pass a state inspection (which might be pretty strict, or it might not be, it’s Utah after all), they are sold at a really cheap price (comparatively spea king), these cars have no factory warranty, and California will total a car if the airbags deploy and that’s all that’s happened to the car.
The interview itself went ok. If I got the job I’d be doing videos of cars to put on the website and answering sales calls done over the phone, because I guess a lot of their business is out of state.
Honestly, I want the job, because I want something to do and I want to cut my ties with my current job. I applied for a job with the Utah Transit Authority to be a bus driver (really), but I can’t start the job or begin training until things get better (which let’s be realistic, even though the president and the mongoloids that are his followers want things to re-open now, it’s not happening until maybe in the fall or winter).

Do you already have a CDL?

any port in a storm, a job is a job.
I see no harm in selling rebuilt from salvage as long as it’s clearly stated and the price reflects that status and work done.
And in this increasingly online and distant world, quality video productions couild really help with sales. best of luck!

I do not, the Transit Authority job will provide training to get the CDL class B with Airbrakes and Passengers, but I just have to pass the written test for a permit. The permit's good for about six months, I don't want to get the permit and it then expires before I can start training.

The real question is what do you need to do to get to drive the Frontrunner/TRAX/S-Line?

If you want a head start on a driving job, get your DOT medical card if you don’t already have one. They’re good for two years unless you have certain medical issues. They have to be issued by doctor who is a DOT medical examiner. Many ”work med” type places will have a someone who give you at DOT physical and issue the medical card if your regular doctor isn’t a DOT medical examiner (and they likely aren’t). Any CDL trainging/job offer will be contingent on that anyway.

I was able to get the medical card before the shut-down, and my background check was good.

I did an interview with both TRAX and the bus operator side of UTA. TRAX did not hire me, but I have a guaranteed job as a bus operator when this is over. I can transfer to TRAX or even Frontrunner after I have been a bus operator for about six months, after my training period.

Stuff is reopening in Georgia, but I’m chasing a lot of job leads right now. Being in Marketing and about to graduate is amazing because I literally have hundreds of options. I had two interviews already today; one of them was along the lines of your dealer job. Good luck!
What’s better is that both are salaried. This is good because it means my mom will co-sign a car for me, uh, I mean, I have a stable income. Yeah, that’s why.
